The Chinese Lunar Round 1 oz. Silver Coin Series I was minted from .999 fine Silver, with each coin weighing exactly one troy ounce. Although the coins were substantially heavier than the 15 gram Silver Lunar rounds which preceeded them, they were also much smaller in diameter: just 32mm, instead of 40mm. The result is a Piedfort ("double thick") style coin, which are highly prized by collectors. The annual mintage limit for Series I varied, from 20,000 to as few as just 8,000.
